Bronze insect and fly screens are
90% Copper and 10% Tin.
Bronze is the most popular material
utilized for costal screening applications subject to salt spray.
Bronze is very durable, although more expensive than
fiberglass or aluminum. It is used to preserve appearances in historical districts and in
high end luxury homes, chosen by builders
and contractors who appreciate
the long term superior performance, especially when compared to aluminum, fiberglass or
galvanized screens.

The bronze material is
a better choice for ocean front (salt spray/air) property than stainless.
Bronze insect screening looks great and will
usually outlast everything except stainless steel in
non coastal applications. A
very thin coating of clear varnish is applied during the manufacturing process,
after installation and exposure to the elements, the varnish will
quickly dissipate allowing the bronze to age normally. |
|
This material can be
installed with regular screening spline although bronze is slightly more
difficult to work with than the lower strength fiberglass or aluminum
screen materials although well worth the effort..
Bronze, Monel or Stainless Steel staples are
recommended. |
