Galvanized Wire Mesh is available in two basic types of structure
(construction) types, Woven or Welded.
|
The Basic Types are
Galvanizing are Galvanized Before (GB) and Galvanized After (GA)
|
Galvanized Before is
typically Electro-Galvanized wire. Electro-Galvanizing results in a
highly consistent thickness of bonded zinc having a smooth surface.
The finish is typically bright and evenly colored in appearance. The
service life will be similar to that of Hot Dip Galvanizing if the
application is static or not subjected to surface wear such as
abrasion. Hot
Dip Galvanizing will have some inconsistency in thickness although
the coating thickness will not go below the specified minimum
according to industry approved quality standard (ASTM
A123 / A123M). The
surface tends to somewhat rough to the feel which is often thought
to be rustic (rugged) and therefore more durable. The color will
vary between areas and may be shiny in some and dull in others. if
the mesh is exposed to abrasive wear it will be more durable than a
Galvanized before product.
Please Note:
Either type of galvanizing will have exposed bare metal if sawed or
sheared to alter the mesh shape or dimension. This exposure will
result in moisture migration (wicking) between the layer of zinc and
the bare wire beneath. If left exposed (untreated) over time the
moisture will continue to travel between the layers as it continues
to rust although not visible the rust damage will continue to grow
slowly over time until it fails completely and will need to be
replaced. This hidden damage can be prevented by applying a
generous layer of zinc rich paint that may be applied by brush or spray to
seal any exposed bare metal. |
The method of Structure
(either Woven or Welded) combined with the Process (either
Electro-Galvanized or Hot Dip Galvanized) is shown for each
specification listed below that are currently in stock. Always
confirm the Structure and Process are what is expected when your
ready to purchase. |
